Dear LSA Families,

Lee’s Summit Academy remains committed to providing education with excellence while maintaining the safest possible environment. The educational team has been working on plans for the 2020-2021 school year. At this time, thanks to the recommendations and work of the administration, we have plans for the new school year. This pandemic has challenged all of us in different ways, but as we continue to prove, we are strong and we will get through this together.

School will take place in-person in a traditional classroom environment beginning Tuesday, September 8. The requirements and restrictions of in-person school will be fluid based on city, county, and state regulations. If our school does not have mandated restrictions, the following precautions will be put in place:

  • Hand washing and hygiene will be enforced and hand sanitizer will be readily available and encouraged.

  • Daily wellness checks (teacher observations and verbal check-ins with students about signs and symptoms of COVID-19) will occur.

  • Temperature checks will be taken at the front door at the beginning of the day and then again at lunchtime.

  • Facemasks will be worn in the classroom if physical distancing cannot be maintained.

  • Masks will be required when moving through the school (arrival, dismissal, passing time, bathroom breaks, transitioning to a special class such as P.E., etc.) Physical distancing will be practiced when possible, but we know it is not always feasible.

  • No visitors or lunch guests will be allowed. If you need to see Mrs. Augustine, you need to make an appointment.

  • Recess will take place, but the use of equipment may be monitored. At this point, with our small numbers, we are able to physically distance.

  • Children will bring water bottles from home. Our water fountains have been disabled.

If we are ordered to close, distance learning will be much like a day at school for middle school and high school. They will follow a daily schedule and Team 365 will be utilized to have virtual class with the students. Elementary grades kindergarten-5 will have Team class with their teacher and will be able to see their classmates.

Students will be responsible for completing daily assigned coursework independently. Some or all of this coursework will need to be completed on a device. The time this work will take is dependent upon the student and grade level.

Their teacher will assess students. Grades will be given and reflected in the student’s overall grade point average (GPA applies to students in grades 6-12.)  LSA distance learning may also include virtual parent communication.

If your child has a temperature of 100.4 or higher or has had a fever in the past 24 hours, please keep them home. They must be fever free for 24 hours without medication. We ask that you monitor your child’s health and watch for any symptoms of COVID.

During the school day, if a student is displaying COVID symptoms, the child will be moved to our isolation room to wait for pick up. Once a child has displayed symptoms, parents will need to work with the administration to ensure the health of the child before remittance. For a student to return to school they will need a negative COVID test, a release from a medical professional or 10 days symptom free.

Those in contact with the symptomatic individual will be notified.

We need to all be responsible to ensure our school stays open for in person learning. Please engage with your children about COVID protocol and personal health measures such as not sharing items, staying distant and coughing in elbow.

We ask that parents check your children before bringing them to school. Here is the checklist of symptoms:

  • Fever (100.4 or higher)

  • Chills

  • Cough

  • Headache

  • Muscle or body aches

  • New loss of taste or smell

  • New runny nose or congestion

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

  • Sore throat

  • Fatigue

  • Diarrhea

If you or someone in your family has contracted COVID or has been exposed, please contact the administration immediately.

Contact me anytime if you have questions or concerns.
